Interior Decorator Hermanus ~ Inspiring Prints
Some of my favourite ever prints are from the internationally renowned designer Orla Kiely whose distinctive palette and repeated bold yet simple graphics are instantly recognisable.
Much of her inspiration comes from the 1960s and 1970s which was an era in which patterns were inspired by contemporary art and architecture and her signature style is strong colours and prints. She loves the idea of patterns clashing and yet contrasting and believes that people should be brave and embrace more pattern in the home.
Orla Kiely is a Dublin-born Irish designer who was originally a hat designer but became a globally recognised thanks to her trademark Stem print which she used for a range of handbags made from laminated cloth. The printed bags and were fresh and unique and hugely popular and even today, every Orla Kiely collection has featured a version of her Stem print. In fact, this retro-tinged graphic which is now found all over the globe and on a diverse range of products from mugs to cushions, notebooks, furniture, wallpaper, radios and even a car!
