Interior Designer Overstrand ~ Minimalism
Minimalism is an interior design style originating from Japanese interior design concepts where everything is reduced to only its necessary elements and the emphasis is one of simplicity.
If you love clean lines want your home interior to run along minimalist lines then quite simply one of the first things you should do is have a big clear out as minimalism is characterised by a clutter free home. Spend some time deciding what to keep and what to get rid of and keep in mind that less is more.
In terms of colours, bright, clean white is ideal for the minimalist concept with perhaps only one feature paint color. When working on your mood board play with a neutral palette of beige, gray and oaty colours
Painted walls should be done in a white, matt emulsion. Ensure that you steer clear of multiple pictures on the walls and instead choose large and striking feature pieces of artwork to make a bold statement.
Floors are best off in a good quality wood and that runs in long simple lines, polished concrete or large floor tiles ~ avoid parquet and patterned flooring and tiles laid out in anything but a simple grid pattern.
In terms of lighting be adventurous and go for oversized floor lamps, feature pendants or concealed lighting.
