Interior Design Botrivier ~ Nordic Xmas

Interior Design Botrivier ~ Anyone who reads my blog must realise that I am particularly taken with Scandinavian and Nordic interior design and their Christmas decor is just one more element of this style of design that I absolutely love. There is something inherently pleasing about the simple neutral colours and natural finishes that they apply to their seasonal decor that makes you realise that you don’t have to only use the traditional seasonal colors when you decorate your home.

Nordic Christmas style is a warming combination of cosy rustic style and minimalism with lots of natural wood accessories, fir tree wreaths, pine cone decorations, subtle lighting in the form of candles and fabric ribbons.

Mantel pieces are decorated with garlands of fresh branches and the traditional Christmas tree is often replaced with something far simpler.

Colours range from black, grey, white and green with splashes of brighter colours in the form of bright red berries, fabric tree ornaments, patterned Christmas stockings and rugs.Interior Design Botriver

Interior Designer Westcliff ~ Decorating with Stripes

Interior Designer Westcliff ~ Decorating with Stripes:  When used in interior design stripes are stylish, timelessly ever- popular and are guaranteed to never go out of fashion. They can be thick or thin, horizontal or vertical, subtle and pale or dramatic and bold. They immediately energise a room and add instant appeal to neutral backgrounds by redirecting the eye and reshaping the interior space.

Vertical stripes on walls and curtains can create an illusion of height in rooms with low ceilings as they draw the eye up and visually add height while horizontal stripes can make a hallway or narrow room feel longer, a ceiling lower and a room wider as the eye will move from side to side.

The wider each individual stripe is, the more the striped design will stand out so if you are going for an eye catching and dramatic look, wide stripes in bold contrasting colors are perfect. Narrower stripes can add a fun element to a room while medium width stripes in monochrome shades are subtle and classic.

Stripes are most often associated with beach-house style but they can also be boldly contemporary and modern particularly when bright coloured high contrast stripes are employed in unexpected places and striped accessories are used to add the wow factor to a room.  Here are some of my favourites:
